2020 Synergy Schools Solar Challenge

Engage your students with this hands-on STEM initiative - The Synergy Schools Solar Challenge. 

 

Developed in partnership with Synergy, STAWA is pleased to announce the challenge is back in 2020!

 

2020 includes five regional events - Albany, Bunbury, Collie, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie, two large metro events North at Warwick SHS and South at All Saints College, and a Grand Final

Register now  to avoid disappointment as places are filling fast. Registrations close 9 December 2019

 

2019 Synergy Schools Solar Challenge

Grand Final

Congratulations to all the schools teams who have made it to our Synergy Schools Solar Challenge Grand Final event. It will be held at Optus Stadium on Tuesday the 9th April 2019. 

  • 10am-10:30am Registrations
  • 10:30am- 11:30am Car assembly, testing, morning tea
  • 11:30-12:30pm Races
  • 12:30-1pm Awards and pack up

Parking - park in Warndoolier follow the road labelled with arrows. Map
Spectators should park in the Bus Hub. 
Everyone enters through Gate B - you will see the track and banners.
Don’t forget to bring a hat and a drink bottle.
*For those of you who are traveling a fair distance please remember to bring your lunch.

The www.solarchallenge.net.au site is evolving to include additional activities and background information along with winners tips, video clips and inspirational articles. You will be give a unique code to access teacher resources once registrations are complete.

This is a great STEM opportunity with FREE Resources including equipment, classroom activities and the excitement of a competition.

A limited number of kits are available for new schools in 2019, through a partnership between Synergy and STAWA for a Year 6 competition and a Year 8 competition. Each school pack has 8 complete solar car kits. Entry into the competition is FREE

Sustainability

STAWA and Synergy are committed to a sustainable approach to all our activities.  

Sustainable practices implemented in the Synergy Schools Solar Challenge are aimed at reducing its impact on the environment and adopting practices that use resources sustainably. They include

  • Reusable model car kits
  • Only schools entering the competition for the first time will be given a Free School Pack 
  • Schools re-registering will be sent new core flute chasses, but not a free pack
  • Teacher guides and additional lessons and support material will be provided digitally from the website
  • Reusable event collateral such as the track, banners and bunting
  • Using volunteers to complement staffing requirements
