Posted on 03-12-2008 at 1:16 am

20 January 2009

4.00-6.00 pm

STAWA are hosting a National Curriculum forum for members on Tuesday 20th January at the STAWA office in Osborne Park. The aim of this event is to facilitate discussions around the Science Framing Paper and to help formulate a STAWA response, which will be forwarded to the National Curriculum Board.

The forum will be from 4.00-6.00 pm with afternoon tea provided from 3.30 onwards.

The Science Framing Paper can be downloaded from the NCB website at:

http://www.ncb.org.au/our_work/preparing_for_2009.html

Discussions will be centred on some of the key feedback questions presented by the board, such as these shown below.

· The use of the headings of Curriculum focus, Science understanding and Big ideas of science for each stage of schooling.

· How the science content has been divided into the four stages of schooling.

· The organisation of the science content within the four stages.

· The way courses in the senior secondary years of schooling are organised.

· Approaches to assessment and pedagogy within the curriculum.

There will also be the opportunity to discuss wider national curriculum issues.

This event will enable open discussion on the issues involved and help STAWA council members to gauge opinion from members.

If you are unable to attend, but would still like to contribute to the debate, there should soon be the possibility of adding to a discussion board on the STAWA website. Alternatively email me at the address below if you have specific points that you would like to be considered.

There is no charge to attend this event.

To register your attendance please click HERE to download the registration form and FAX it to 9244 2601.
